Cyberpunk 2077 had a rough launch on consoles. For older generation consoles, gamers reported a litany of bugs that were either game-breaking or downright annoying. There were many on next-gen consoles who suffered performance issues. Many had a generally positive experience, but there was no denying it: Cyberpunk 2077 was a disaster. So much so that Sony ripped it from the PSN a week after release, offering full refunds.

Cyberpunk 2077

PlayStation owners, you will have the option to purchase Cyberpunk 2077 from the PSN on June 21, 2021. CD PROJEKT RED announced it through a regulatory announcement for their investors:

“In relation to Current Report no. 66/2020 of 18 December 2020, the Management Board of CD PROJEKT S.A. with a registered office in Warsaw hereby publicly discloses the decision by Sony Interactive Entertainment to reinstate the availability of the digital edition of Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation Store, effective on 21 June 2021.”

The new patch for Cyberpunk 2077

With the return of Cyberpunk to the PlayStation Network comes ‘upgrades.’ CD PROJEKT RED released patch 1.23 on June 17 that targets stability and performance, especially on the old consoles – Xbox One | One X and the PS4 | PRO. However, before you dive back in, I want to warn you that stability for the older consoles came at a cost: Night City is emptier than it used to be.

On the Xbox One and PS4, Night City streets are no longer bustling with vehicles or civilians. Players will come across both from time to time, but nowhere near the amount next-gen consoles sport. According to a comparison video by ElAnalistaDeBits, Cyberpunk does not maintain 30 frames per second (FPS) on the XBOX One. The base PS4 holds at 30 in the ElAnalistaDeBits Playstation comparison video.

CD PROJEKT RED regularly updates the title, yet even next-gen consoles don’t have a completely optimized version just yet. While those with next-gen consoles seemed to enjoy the game, only PC players have experienced the true potential of Cyberpunk 2077. So, will you give Cyberpunk 2077 a chance, are you waiting for the optimized version, or have you put in your time, and you’re moving on? Either way, Night City is waiting, Chooms.
