The Detroit Tigers send two players from their Double-A affiliate Erie to the MLB Futures Game.

Fans of the Detroit Tigers farm system received good news today as right-handed pitcher Wilmer Flores and catcher Dillon Dingler are heading to Los Angeles for the 2022 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. The game is on Saturday, July 16th at Dodger Stadium, to kick off the MLB All-Star festivities.

Flores has moved through the Tigers minor league system with a quickness in his second professional season with Detroit. In his first season, he was the best pitcher for the Low-A Lakeland Flying Tigers.

In 53 innings of work, Flores struck out 72 and had a K per 9 of 12.2, allowing just one home run. He started the season in High-A West Michigan and expeditiously went through the Midwest League. He struck out 35 in just 19.2 innings of work, posting an ERA of 2.29.

Currently for Erie, he has a 3.92 ERA in nine starts spanning over 39 innings of work. The strikeouts stand out, with 50 and just eight walks.Flores has struck out six or more hitters in five of his nine starts, including an eight-strikeout performance at Richmond on June 11. He’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in eight of his nine Double-A starts. He signed with Detroit as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and his brother, who goes by the same name, plays for the Giants.

The Detroit Tigers scouting department gets a “W”

Catcher Dillon Dingler was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2020 out of the Ohio State University. Dingler quickly rose through the system in 2021 starting at West Michigan. He moved up to Erie along with Spencer Torkelson on June 13th. He has hit .240/ .325/ .400 with seven home runs and 37 RBI and his primarily known for his defense. Dingler has thrown out 15 of 29 base-stealers in 2022 and is the no 3 prospect overall by MLB.com
