Bloober Team, the developer behind “The Medium,” has officially entered a partnership with Konami!

Konami is known for numerous franchises such as Castlevania, Contra, Metal Gear, and Silent Hill. However, gamers speculate the team up means that Bloober will work on Konami’s long-rumored Silent Hill revival. Unfortunately, Bloober Team President Piotr Babieno did not divulge specific details, instead celebrating the partnership.

“It is a historic day for me and the culmination of several years of our work. The fact that such a renowned company as Konami has decided to strategically cooperate with the Bloober Team means that we also joined the world leaders in gaming and became an equal partner for the leading players in this market,” Babieno said.

Hideki Hayakawa, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, commented that they look forward to combining their characteristics and strengths with Bloober Team’s to create high-quality content. The agreement between the two means they will cooperate in developing content and the exchange of know-how. In this, Konami will improve the team’s vision in the future. Polygon reached out to Konami to clarify the partnership projects. Konami reassured them that Bloober Team would also continue to produce their own content.

Why Bloober Team’s Partnership may not involve Silent Hill

On February 18, 2021, Mr. Babieno told GI.biz, “In fact, we’ve been working for more than a year on another gaming project, another horror IP, and we’re doing this with a very famous gaming publisher. I can’t tell you who. I can’t tell you what the project is, but I’m pretty sure when people realize we’re working on it, they will be very excited.”

The wrench in the Silent Hill theory? Keiichiro Toyama, Silent Hill director, left SIE Japan to create Bokeh Game Studio. He told videogameschronicle, “One thing we can say is that, we are working hard right now to collaborate with a famous creator in Japan, and that’s something we haven’t been open about before.” Silent Hill composure Akira Yamaoka later teased his next game project is “the one you’ve been hoping to hear about,” in a video interview that someone took offline.

The above leads many to believe that Silent Hill is in the hands of Bokeh Game Studio, not Bloober Team. Bloober Team is a Polish developer, so ‘famous creator in Japan’ does not fit the bill.

Konami and Bloober Team is a good partnership

It’s purely opinion for me to call this partnership good or fortuitous. Players either love or hate The Medium, not for the psychological horror elements, but because some consider it a ‘walking simulator.’ I reviewed it, so my stance is already known. Babieno describes The Medium as “a project on the edge,” blending their old approach to games with their new one. Bloober team’s hope to create games like Resident Evil Village and Hellblade 2 will be easier with Konami’s resources. Perhaps the ‘horror IP’ is Castlevania?

Whether or not the team will create a version of Silent Hill is yet to be seen. However, after my experience with The Medium, I’ll keep an eye on how Bloober Team improves. Hopefully, they take special care of any existing IPs they potentially revive for the fans. Are you excited to see the fruits of this partnership?
