“He could do things to people that other people couldn’t.” – Dana White
After paying tribute to one of the greatest fighters of all time, UFC President Dana White made it clear on his thoughts of Anderson Silva continuing his MMA career. During the UFC Vegas 12 Post Fight Press Conference, White stated that he would never allow Silva to fight in the UFC again.
“(Silva) could do things to people that other people couldn’t. He was almost impossible to touch. He would be just on the end of your punch, the leather might touch him just a little bit and he’d come back with a combination that would either knock you out, or almost knock you out.
“I’ll Never Let Silva Fight Here Again.” – Dana White
Dana White and Anderson Silva have had their disagreements over the years, but I have to agree with Dana on this one. Silva during his prime was unstoppable, but it’s time to hang up the gloves. Silva eluded to fighting again one day, but Dana made it clear that it won’t be happening in the octagon.
“I’m not trying to prevent him from doing anything. He’s a grown man and he can do what he wants, and he’s got one fight left with us. I’ll never let him fight here again. I want him to retire. And what I hope is when he goes home his family, he tells him that same thing. I’m in a really hard position right now because this is a guy I care about and this is a guy that’s been here for a long time and is a legend of his company, and I don’t want to sit here and shit on him. But he’s almost 46 years old. Unless you’re trying to defend your fucking life or save your family, no one at 46 should be fighting.
Silva is no doubt one of the greatest of all time, but if he chooses to continue his MMA career it’s going to end the same way it did on Saturday night. Silva during his prime was unstoppable, but now the talent in the UFC has grown so much he just can’t keep up. Father time is once again undefeated as another legend exits the octagon.
