Marvin Vettori proved he is a top contender in the Middleweight division on Saturday by defeating Jack Hermansson via Unanimous Decision. After scoring a knock down in round 1, Vettori used his striking skills and forward momentum to earn the victory.

Vettori vs Hermansson Breaks Middleweight Record

Not only did Vettori and Hermansson earn a $50,000 bonus for the Fight Of The Night, they also broke a UFC records. Both fighters had a combined 286 significant strikes in the main event which now holds the record for most significant strikes in a Middlweight bout. Oh, it also is the second most at 185 or heavier right behind Stipe vs DC at 304 combined significant strikes.

During the Post Fight interview with Jon Anik, Vettori made it clear who he wants next…

Sure, the fight with Adesanya is always there for Vettori is always there, but will Izzy ever accept it? It was the closest we’ve seen to Adesanya losing. Izzy is suppose to be move up to Light Heavyweight to face Jan Błachowicz sometime in 2021. I’d love to see Vettori run it back against Adesanya, but he’ll most likely face Paulo Costa next.

The Middleweight division is heating up, so why should the UFC pull Izzy out to fight for the LHW belt?! It makes absolutely no sense. I get the appeal to the whole “double champ” talk when it come to Adesanya, but he has a challenger ready to go. Marvn Vettori. He was ranked #15 before this fight and beat the #4 ranked Middlweight. What else does he have to prove? Sure, he doesn’t have the cleanest record at 16-4-1, but he deserves another shot and it keeps the division intact.

The fight against Hermansson was Vettori’s first five round fight and he looked fantastic. Moving fighters from one division to another just creates more chaos and more interim champs. Set up the rematch between Izzy and Marvin if he get the Paulo Costa fight and wins. That is the fight to make and I think the trash talk would help sell decent PPV numbers.
