The Detroit Lions kicking conundrum continues. They have waived kicker Austin Seibert leaving Michael Badgley as the lone placekicker in the organization.

The Lions have had terrible luck when it’s come to kickers this season. Seibert missed two field goals in the 28-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings and has been dealing with a groin injury since. He’s missed several days of practice and the game against the Seattle Seahawks. Dominik Eberle would take the field for the Lions in that game, and he would miss two extra points.

Eberle was waived earlier this week, leading to the signing of Badgley to the Practice Squad. Badgley has kicked in one game this season for the Chicago Bears. In that game, he was responsible for all of the Bears’ points in the 20-12 loss to the New York Giants.

While Special Teams Coordinator Dave Fipp seemed optimistic about Seibert, Dan Campbell didn’t appear too confident. Campbell spoke on the possibility of bringing new talent in on Monday.

“Yeah, we’re bringing in some guys to kick, just to get a look at them, and we’re hopeful of maybe – we’re hopeful to see if we can get (Lions K Austin) Seibert to kick Wednesday, see where he’s at. So, we’re just keeping our options open, looking at everything.”

Badgley is expected to make his debut for the Detroit Lions in Sunday’s matchup with the New England Patriots.
