Per Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Lions are hiring Scottie Montgomery as the new Assistant Head Coach. He will be replacing Duce Staley, who join new Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich’s staff.

Montgomery, who was the running backs coach in Indianapolis, comes to Detroit with a good pedigree. He was a wide receiver out of Duke University, and after bouncing around the NFL for a few seasons, he became their wide receivers coach in 2006. In 2010, he went to the NFL, as the Steelers wide receiver coach before once again returning to his alma matter with the same title as assistant head coach from 2014 and 2015. Montgomery also served as the head coach at East Carolina University.
