The Detroit Lions are now a legitimate playoff contender after defeating the New York Jets, their sixth win in seven weeks, bringing their record to 7-7 and just half a game out of the final playoff spot.
There are five teams vying for the final two spots in the NFC playoffs:
The New York Giants (8-5-1), Washington Commanders (7-6-1), Seattle Seahawks (7-7), Detroit Lions (7-7), and Green Bay Packers (6-8).
The Lions need to finish in the top two of this group to make the playoffs, with the best team earning the No. 6 seed and the second-best earning the No. 7 seed.
To pass the Giants, Detroit either need to win their remaining three games while the Giants lose two or go 2-1 while the Giants lose all three.
For the Lions to pass the Commanders, the Lions need to win their remaining three games and have the Commanders lose at least one.
To pass the Seahawks, Detroit needs to win their remaining three games and have the Seahawks lose one.
It will be difficult for the Lions to make the playoffs, but if they can win their remaining games and get some help, they have a chance.
