Red Wings – Canadiens Recap
The Red Wings started their 2022 campaign last night against the Canadiens at LCA and did not disappoint. Detroit came out swinging the first period looking great offensively putting up a whopping 25 shots in the first period while holding Montreal to minimal chances in their zone.
The first two periods ended in a stalemate before Elmer Soderblom buried his first NHL goal assisted by Michael Rasmussen and Oskar Sundqvist to get the Detroit on the board. Detroit would later than put in two empty net goals by Olli Maatta and Michael Rasmussen to seal the deal on 3-0 Red Wings win on opening night.
Husso was HOT!
Ville Husso got the start in between the pipes for his first regular season game in the Winged Wheel. Husso played outstanding in net all night but particularly in the 3rd period making some desperation saves that had Little Caesars Arena ready to explode. Ville gave credit to his teammates in post game “I felt like we were on top of them all the time”.
Goaltending was one of the biggest question marks along with the defense going into the offseason, as I’ve said before Husso was the perfect addition to play alongside Alex Nedeljkovic for years to come.
Lalonde gets First Win as Head Coach
It didn’t take long for Head Coach Derek Lalonde to get his first win behind the bench for Detroit. Lalonde spoke on the Red Wings win after the game stating “The important thing is not only getting the win, but getting it the right way. We played a complete game tonight”.
Coach Lalonde and the Wings will look to keep the momentum going as they head to New Jersey to face a dangerous devils team.
