Detroit lost a heartbreaker, 3-2, in overtime to the Canadiens tonight. After going 0-7 on the power play and putting 43 shots on goal, Jake Allen was just too much for the Red Wings.
The Red Wings seen three consecutive power plays in the 2nd period, putting up nearly 12 shots, but just couldn’t find the back of the net. Matt Luff took a hit in the 3rd period, shortly after Lucas Raymond tied the game, that may have drawn flashbacks for Red Wings fans.

1st overall Pick in the 22′ Draft, Juraj Slafkovsky laid a dirty hit that sent Luff into the boards right in front of the Detroit bench. Luff who was bleeding, immediately went to the locker room. Slafkovsky was penalized five minutes for boarding and a game misconduct.
Luff recently took a puck to the face in Detroit’s game against Minnesota, losing several teeth along with getting 16 stitches. This was Luff’s first game without his protective cage on, protecting him from those prior injuries. Coach Lalonde spoke on the hit, saying “a player was seriously injured and the right call was made”.
This game, after what was a wild 60 minutes, would head to overtime then later, a shootout. Despite nearly dominating the whole entire contest, The Red Wings just didn’t have an answer for Jake Allen. Allen carried the Canadiens throughout out the game, meanwhile coming huge in the shootout. Stopping attempts by both Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond, to tack off his 43 save performance and steal a win for Montreal
Overall a tough loss for Detroit. They still get a point and remained tied for 2nd in the Atlantic with the Toronto Maple Leafs, they host the New York Rangers at home Thursday night.
