The Detroit Red Wings secured vital two points against the Columbus Blue Jackets before embarking on their journey to Sweden. Detroit outshot Columbus 28-22 and commanded the face-off circle with a 61% success rate. Over the past eight games, the team  has been actively addressing concerns about sluggish starts, and in this instance, they successfully corrected course. Initiating the game on a strong note, scoring two goals within the first five minutes of the contest.

Lucas Raymond continued his impressive start to the year, by opening the scoring for Detroit for his 5th goal, 11th point. While Alex DeBrincat broke free from a scoring slump in the 2nd period with a skillful goal assisted by Jeff Petry, marking The Cat’s 10th goal of the year. Despite some challenges faced by goaltender Ville Husso during the game. Husso showcased resilience with 22 saves on 26 shots from the Blue Jackets. However, Detroit struggled and couldn’t convert on all three power-play opportunities, highlighting a dire need for improvement as they prepare to face Toronto and Ottawa overseas.

Fabbri Has Impactful Night for Red Wings

Red Wings forward Robby Fabbri, who has faced a persistent struggle with injuries extending into this season, made a significant impact in only his third game of the year. Fabbri showcased the kind of influence he can have when fully healthy on the ice. Post-game, Fabbri engaged with the media, discussing his return to the game and the importance of securing a significant win.

It feels good.. Ultimately to get that win with the stretch we’ve had.  You get a big win before we head over to Sweden. It’s huge for the group. That was the big emphasis on tonightWe kept it going for 60 minutes. We didn’t let anything get to us and we just stuck to our game. It came down right to the very end, but we pulled it out.

Coaches Comments

Head Coach Derek Lalonde commented on the team’s victory, expressing satisfaction with the desired level of competitiveness and securing significant two points before their upcoming road trip.

It was a great start. I liked our entire 60 minutes. Probably could have managed our game a little bit better. A little too much easy offense for them. Obviously some breakaway, half breakaway looks, some odd man’s. But for the most part I thought our compete was excellent tonight and I thought we got what we deserved.

I challenged the guys. We were on a 2-2-1 over our last five and our game was flat. It wasn’t awful. It wasn’t great. It’s just it was fine. And it actually helped. I watched our Columbus game back and our, just our actual compete in that game was just a notch better. So I think a little bit of that visual for the guys, I think helped them. I think we got our feet moving a little bit more today. Our compete was excellent and was a pretty complete game for us.
