Red Wings Blank Blue Jackets

In an overall impressive team performance, the Detroit Red Wings boasting their off-season acquisitions, soared to a resounding 4-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. James Reimer in his debut in goal for Detroit, was perfect. Deflecting all 23 shots he faced, notably excelling in a commanding first period. Reimer became the third goalie in franchise history to post a shutout in their debut.

Shayne Gostisbehere, in his third game as a Red Wing tallied his first goal and his third point, kickstarting the night for Detroit.  Meanwhile, the tandem of Dylan Larkin and Alex DeBrincat continued to demonstrate their growing on-ice chemistry, with Larkin capitalizing on a power-play opportunity to notch his first goal of the season.

Klim Kostin also made his presence felt in Columbus. He engaged in a bout with Erik Gudbransom shortly after delivering a powerful hit on his teammate Cole Sillinger, signaling his intent for the role he intends to play in the games ahead.

Coaches Comments

Following the game, Head Coach Derek Lalonde had glowing remarks about James Reimer’s display and the performance of the Red Wings’ recent acquisitions.

He was the difference in the first. Not a very good period for us.  We gave up some really easy looks for him in the slot. He just made some huge saves, very fortunate to come out of the period one nothing. Give the guys credit. We really buckled it down and went a much better second and third. Got a really good road win. And, as far as the offense goes, four different scorers again tonight. The offense getting spread around.

Detroit heads home to face Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins Wednesday night at Little Caesars Arena with a 7:30 puck drop.
