Red Wings – Blackhawks Preview

The Detroit Red Wings (2-0-1), coming off a hard-fought overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings, head to Chicago to face Patrick Kane and the Blackhawks (1-2-0) in their home opener. Detroit will see familiar faces on the ice tonight. Former Red Wings’ Andreas Athanasiou and Petr Mrazek will both be in the lineup for the Blackhawks. Oddly enough we will see Athanasiou on Chicago’s top line alongside Kane.

The Red Wings lineup won’t change much, but there are some tweaks to watch for. Lucas Raymond moves to the second line with Andrew Copp and Filip Zadina.  David Perron joins Dylan Larkin and former Blackhawk Dominik Kubalik on the top line.  Defensive pairings won’t change much either with Mo Seider ‘ and Ben Chiarot locking down the backend. Additionally, Olli Maatta is trending toward his best season yet.

Gentry’s Skater To Watch

Calder winner Moritz Seider is my skater to watch. Mo’ didn’t look himself in the season-opener. It wasn’t a bad game by any means, but it wasn’t great. The NHL is a long season, so slumps or bad games are expected. These players are only human. You won’t often see bad outings for Seider. I expect him be a difference maker again tonight.
