Alistair Overeem

With Over 80 fights In His MMA And Kickboxing Career, Overeem Plans To Win The Heavyweight Belt And Retire

#5 ranked UFC Heavyweight Alister Overeem is set on winning the HW belt and immediately hang up the gloves for the last time. Overeem is booked to fight Alexander Volkov on February 6th in what will be his 20th fight in the UFC, but at 40 years old Overeem wants one final shot at the Heavyweight belt.

“There definitely is momentum because we’re two wins in a row. I think my fights are good, they’re exciting. I think we’ve just got to keep this trajectory going and another title shot will be there, and that will be my last because my time is running out, which is fine. I’ve had a great career, I’m having a great career. But we also have to be realistic, and that’s a little bit where the final run comes from. I’m not going to keep fighting until I’m 45. It’s going to be one final run, then it’s going to be thank you everybody for watching, and see you in the next life. I would retire immediately after winning the title. There’s nothing to prove at that point.”

If Anyone Can Win The Heavyweight Belt At 40 It’s Alister.

Since losing to current UFC Heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic at UFC 203, Overeem has gone 6-3 in the octagon. Does Overeem have a chance at winning the HW strap before he calls it quits? Absolutely. Is the Heavyweight division the toughest division when it comes to winning the belt and keeping it? 100%. I can see Overeem retiring should he lose on February 6th but I can also see him winning the Heavyweight belt too. Alister isn’t the average MMA fighter and if anyone can pull off a miracle at 40 years old it’s him.
