Michigan State is one win away from a bowl game… I thought I would never say those words after the Michigan game. With all the players out for the Spartans, the defense has stepped up, and the offense has played good enough to win. MSU wins 27-21 in a game that Rutgers wouldn’t go down easy and the Spartans couldn’t cover. Either way, Michigan State will take the win and for the first time since the start of the season the Spartans have won two in a row.

Michigan State’s running game flexes

The run game was fantastic today for MSU and went for almost 200 years on the ground. Jalen Berger might’ve had his best looking game of the season. 16 carries for 85 yards and a touchdown was massive for MSU’s success. The wide receivers looked solid as always for MSU. Jayden Reed led the way with 4 catches for 90 yards and a score. Daniel Barker was fantastic as well with 4 receptions for 64 yards and a TD. Payton Thorne has got to be better, though. He missed many open targets with overthrows. The QB position is something that will be heavily discussed for MSU heading into the off-season.

I thought the defense played well. The run D wasn’t good, but the pass defense and pass rush was good. Gavin Wimsatt had 236 yards for 2 TD’s and one came late. MSU had a solid 3 sacks and 6 TFL to pick up the win. Cal Haladay after winning B1G Defensive player of the week, he had 19 tackles and 1 for loss. Aaron Brule had a solid game as well with a couple of pressures and a sack. Even without guys like Jacoby Windmon on the field, it didn’t matter for MSU.

The Spartans will look to become bowl eligible when they take on Indiana next Saturday.
