Nate Diaz, Conor McGregor

“If that happens at lightweight for a title, that would be something special.” – Conor McGregor

During a recent interview with The Mac Life, McGregor shared his thoughts on a potential trilogy fight against Nate Diaz. Although UFC superstar Conor McGregor is preparing for his fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257, the former champ said he would love to have McGregor vs Diaz III for the Lightweight belt.

We’ve got world titles in boxing now, there’s talks of..I hear Dana talking about Nate Diaz coming back down to lightweight. I love that. I’d love to compete against Diaz. We will compete again. If that happens at lightweight for a title, that would be something special, also. So there’s many great options that are in the works and let’s see what happens. I am ready. I would like to put a stint in at 155 pounds, for sure. Came into the UFC as a featherweight and I went through the division. Gave it my all in that division and I tore through it like a chainsaw through butter. Interim title, then unified title. Then I went up and reached for greater heights, went to the lightweight division, became lightweight champion and became the first dual-weight champion in the company’s history.”

As much as I’d love to see McGregor and Diaz slug it out again in 2021 I don’t have a lot of faith in it happening. Sure, it would once again be one of the best selling PPVs in UFC history, but a lot has to fall in place for the fight to happen. I mean, McGregor promised fans a “season” for his career in 2020 and look at how that turned out. I hate to be a Debby Downer, but he fought one time in 2020 due to the pandemic. Here’s to hoping McGregor stays more active in 2021.
