Lady luck is not in the Detroit Lions’ corner, and the latest string of bad news is regarding Romeo Okwara.

Monday afternoon, Lions head coach Dan Campbell confirmed reports that Okwara will miss the remainder of the season with a torn Achilles.

“I hate that for Romes, man,” said Campbell. “I’ll tell you what. The way he works and everything that he’s put into this. He’s a top-notch pro, and I hate it for him, and I hate it for our team.

“But I know he’ll come back better than ever next year.”

Okwara suffered the injury yesterday during the Lions’ 24-14 loss to the Chicago Bears. It’s a significant blow for the Lions as they’ve lost yet another key player on their defense for the same injury this season. Cornerback Jeff Okudah suffered the same Achilles injury during Week 1 vs. the 49ers.

Additionally, the Lions are also without EDGE rusher Trey Flowers. Flowers has missed the last two games as he’s nursing shoulder and knee injuries. Down several players, Campbell is now turning to his younger players on the team to fill the void.

And he has faith in their abilities.

“We know they’ll grow, and we think they can become pretty good players in time.”

Following Sunday’s loss to the Bears, the Lions are now 0-4 on the season. They’ll head to Minnesota and attempt to earn their first win of the season against the Vikings.
