Kelly Stafford has never been afraid to speak her mind. Whether its politics, parenting or her husbands playing career.

Yesterday after Matthew Stafford was placed in the NFL concussion protocol she spoke out against head injuries in the NFL.

Kelly wrote on social media “I have every emotion running through me. Concerned, angry, sad, tired… all of them.”

“If you have listened to my podcast at all, you know how big a deal it is to me,” Kelly wrote Wednesday. “The head is not something to be messed with… and I hope as this sport develops, so does the concern for head health and the research around it.”

A few day prior to Matthew Stafford being put on NFL Concussion Protocol Kelly posted this on her IG.

There has been studies done on the difference of turf vs grass. Some reports say there is the same amount of head injuries.  Other reports have different findings.  Some say more common injuries on grass like ACL and MCL tares. It really is up to what you want to find on the internet.  So the jury is still out on the actual safety that grass can provide.

I will say this, I played on the turf at the Pontiac Silverdome in little league football and in high school for championships.  That turf was like paying on a concrete slab. Every fall was a rug burn, a bruise, just pain.

There has been a major evolution in the turf that the NFL uses. So they aren’t playing on THAT Silverdome type turf any more. But if they were, I can totally see the concern for Kelly Stafford.

How long Matthew stay in concussion protocol is still up in the air.  There is a chance he is back on the field this weekend. But you can rest assure one thing, when Matthew is ready to play Kelly with be right by his side.
