One of the most intriguing match ups in 2020 is now postponed due to injury. Cody Garbrandt tweeted on Friday that he is out of his title fight against Deiveson Figueiredo after he tore his bicep during training. Garbrandt can’t catch a break lately. In September he tested positive for Covid-19 but was able to beat the virus and keep pushing forward for his title shot. Now, the UFC star is out of his shot at the title due to injury. The hits just keep coming for Cody Garbrandt.

Deiveson Figueiredo Will Now Face Alex Perez At UFC 255. What’s Next For Garbrandt?

Figueiredo will now face Alex Perez who is 24-5 in his MMA career. Figueiredo (19-1) is on a four fight win streak while Perez is riding a three fight win streak. I doubt this fight will go to the judges as both fighters have a history of finishing their fights in dominant fashion. As for Garbrandt, he is hoping for another shot at the title in 2021. This is devastating news for MMA fans as Figueiredo vs Garbrandt was predicted to be a potential FOTY. Garbrandt is known for his stunning striking speed while Figueiredo is known for not only his hands, but also is great on the ground with 9 of his finishes coming by submission.

When it comes to re-booking title fights, the UFC tends to keep it moving and fills the spot with another active fighter and the division moves on. That scenario would be devastating news for Garbrandt. I doubt the UFC will skip over him in 2021 considering his star power. After losing three in a row, Garbrandt pulled off in my opinion the knock out of the year at UFC 250 against Raphael Assunção. Garbrandt couldn’t of landed a cleaner shot and the knock out coming at 4:59 in the 2nd round is the definition of a story book ending for Garbrandt. There’s not many on the UFC roster that are as entertaining in the octagon as Cody Garbrandt, so here’s to hoping we see the title contender in early 2021.
