Edwards Forced To Sit Out Longer Due To UFC’s Call To Move Chiesa vs Magny To Headline Fight

#3 ranked UFC Welterweight Leon Edwards is speaking out after he claims the UFC turned down his offer to fight on January 20th. After Khamzat Chimaev was forced to pull out of UFC Fight Island 8 due to Covid 19 complications, Edwards stepped up and notified the UFC that he was ready to take on either Michael Chiesa or Neil Magny. The UFC decided to move forward without Leon Edwards and instead move Chiesa vs Magny to the headline spot on January 20th.

Leon Hasn’t Fought In The UFC Since July 2019

Edwards has been out of the octagon since his bout against Rafael dos Anjos on July 20th, 2019. The 18-3 fighter has had the worst of luck when it comes to booking a fight in the UFC. After dealing with fights being canceled due to Covid restrictions, Edwards was forced to pull out of his fight against Chimaev in December due to contracting Covid. Shortly after he was diagnosed with Covid, Khamzat tested positive and suffered complications which forced him to pull out of the January 20th bout.

Now, Edwards is on the shelf for the foreseeable future. There is no chance of him fighting his rival Jorge Masvidal any time soon. Jorge will most likely face Colby next, so Edwards will most likely sit out until at least Spring. Here is how UFC Fight Island 8 is looking so far…
