Two years ago, Breshad Perriman had the best game of his career against the Detroit Lions.

Now he’s joining the Lions and following in his father’s footsteps.

Per multiple reports, the Lions inked Perriman to a one-year, $3 million deal. Perriman, 27, will now join his sixth team. Last season with the Jets, he caught 30 passes for 505 yards and three touchdowns. Before his stint with the Jets, he played for the Ravens, Browns, and Buccaneers.

Perriman is the Lions’ second signing at the wideout position this year. Several weeks ago, they agreed to terms with Tyrell Williams on a one-year deal worth up to $6.2 million. After letting Kenny Golladay hit the open market, the Lions needed to address this hole.

As mentioned above, Perriman’s career-best game was against the Lions. While then-playing for the Buccaneers, he helped lead them to a 38-17 victory against them in 2019. He caught five passes for 113 yards and three touchdowns. During that same season, he had a career-best year. In 14 games, he caught 36 passes for 645 yards and six touchdowns.

While his numbers are not off the charts, there’s room for growth. One thing working in his favor is that he’s never caught passes from a quarterback of Jared Goff’s caliber. That will change this Fall.

Perriman landing with the Lions has the fingerprints of senior personnel executive John Dorsey all over it. Dorsey was the Browns’ GM during his lone season with them (2018).

While Perriman has never played for the Lions, he’s no stranger to the franchise.

His father, Brett played five seasons for the Lions (1991-1996), leading them to four playoff berths and two division titles. Along with Herman Moore, they became one of the NFL’s most dynamic wideout duos. His best season came in 1995 when he caught 108 passes for 1488 yards and nine touchdowns.

Despite inking Williams, and now Breshad Perriman to a deal, expect the Lions to make more moves at wideout.
