Even-though the BIG10, MAC and Pac-12 all cancelling their plans for NCAA Football in the fall, The ACC and SEC are planning to play in 2020. This is great news for college football fans. Especially since the SEC is widely regarded as the best conference in NCAA Football. I can imagine Jim Harbaugh is throwing his head set and ripping his khakis at the news.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey:

“I look forward to learning more about the factors that led the Big Ten and Pac-12 leadership to take these actions today. I remain comfortable with the thorough and deliberate approach that the SEC and our 14 members are taking to support a healthy environment for our student-athletes. We will continue to further refine our policies and protocols for a safe return to sports as we monitor developments around COVID-19 in a continued effort to support, educate and care for our student-athletes every day.”

Baylor Athletic Director Mack Rhoades:

“What I’m personally struggling with is I don’t want to be forced into making a decision. This is obviously a big, big decision, and I don’t feel like I personally could vote today and feel like I really voted on solid footing for the right reasons. If I was providing counsel, I would say, ‘Let’s pause, let’s take one, two, three days, let’s gather ourselves.’ We’ve been thinking through it, it’s not like we haven’t known that this day is coming, and it’s upon us. But for me, there’s just some things that I’d want to have some additional further conversation before we voted. I’m just being completely honest and transparent. I’m not comfortable making the decision today.

ACC’s Statement:

“We are pleased with the protocols being administrated on our 15 campuses. We will continue to follow our process that has been in place for months and has served us well. We understand the need to stay flexible and be prepared to adjust as medical information and the landscape evolves.”

Will there be college football?

Time will tell if there will be any teams playing NCAA Football this year. You do have to love the bravado of the SEC and ACC for announcing this after the BIG10 and PAC-12 said they were postponing. I can see Nick Saban in a high school recruits house now, “Those boys up north don’t love football like we do, they took last year off!”

  1. […] Yesterday, Alabama football head coach Nick Saban earned him a contract extension that extends through the 2028 season. At the end of his contract, Saban will be 77 years old, but age does not matter. Saban stated why he would never stop coaching, “I don’t know what the hell I would do if I wasn’t coaching. I don’t even want to imagine it,” per Chris Low of ESPN. […]
