As the deadline approaches the Detroit Red Wings are in an interesting spot. With being somewhat in contention, but yet still a few pieces away from being an actual contender. Detroit within the past month has slowly re-gained their depth factor. Robby Fabbri’s return has certainly created a spark in the lineup not to mention both Filip Zadina along with Jakub Vrana nearing their return.

The Red Wings will have some decisions to make as they near the Trade Deadline.

Here are three players we could see moved before March 3rd, in no particular order:

Filip Hronek

Hronek has had an incredible year so far, undoubtedly his best season to date recording 33 points (7G, 33A) leading up the All-Star break. Early in the year, we saw Filip’s offensive ability flourish playing alongside Olli Maatta since we’ve seen a slight decline but still great production nonetheless. Hronek could be the perfect fit for a contending team in need of a Top 4 defensemen with offensive upside. Filip is under contract through next season with a base salary increasing from 4,500,000 to 5,500,000 in the coming year.

Filip Zadina

The former 6th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft hasn’t quite lived up to the hype. Zadina is under contract through 2025′ with an AAV of 1,825,000. In contrast to when Zadina was given this contract, I said this is a prove it deal for Zadina.  One last shot to show your worth to Steve Yzerman. With that being said, I still believe Zadina has a skill set that can make him successful in the NHL. Filip being only 23 years old with a great offensive upside on a very affordable contract is certainly something to keep an eye on nearing the deadline.

Olli Maatta

Olli has been one of my favorite off-season additions for the Red Wings. Maatta has been the perfect plug and play guy for Detroit constantly fitting in wherever he’s been inserted. Steve Yzerman signed Olli to a 1-year – 2.25m deal over the summer to ensure some depth along with a veteran presence on the blue line. Maatta is a player that has been there, has experience winning, knows what it takes to raise a cup. Although I would hate to see him go, any team in need of quality veteran defender at great price would hit the jackpot with this one.
