Al Avila’s draft pedigree was questionable to say the least. But to his credit the 2019 Tigers class is looking fairly strong as we end the 2022 season.

Let’s take a look at some of the prospects that have come up and made an impact for the Tigers. Let’s also look ahead to see who might be on the way as well.

Greene, Kreidler, and Carpenter

Riley Greene is obviously the most touted player in this group. He has made an immediate impact for the team making sparkling plays in center field as well as being rock solid at the plate.

The big three of sorts from the Detroit Tigers 2019 draft. Ryan Kreidler has not found his footing offensively but has been effective on the other side of the ball. His defense at third base has been impressive and if his hitting comes along, watch out. Kreidler was the Tigers fourth round selection in 2019.

Kerry Carpenter was the diamond in the rough. He was taken all the way in the nineteenth round out of Virginia Tech. Carpenter’s offensive surge could not be ignored in the minors this year, earning him a call-up to the big leagues in 2022. He has hit four homeruns in his short time with the Tigers this year.

Don’t Forget About Beau Brieske

It’s easier to forget Brieske, as he has been injured down the stretch. But the 24-year-old had a strong showing, posting a WAR of almost one in just 15 starts. The advanced numbers could be debated, but he was able to post a 4.19 ERA, which is respectable. He is still young, and the right-hander could find a place in the Tigers rotation in 2023.

On The Farm for the Detroit Tigers

The one name to keep an eye on is Andre Lipcuis. He has been fantastic, hitting over .300 in 2022. He has drawn almost as many walks as strikeouts in 2022. Andre also has shown to be a solid defender at shortstop. Lipcuis will be Rule-Five eligible in 2023, so he will likely be up with the club next year.
