Miguel Cabrera will be joined with Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals at the 2022 All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred used a clause in the newest collective bargaining agreement to do some good. Miguel Cabrera along with Albert Pujols, are going to the 92nd All-Star Game on July 19th. This will be Miguel’s 12th time as an All-Star. Cabrera is just one of three players to have 3,000 hits, 500 home runs and 600 doubles. Pujols and Hall of Fame outfielder Hank Aaron are the other two.
“I am delighted that Albert Pujols and Miguel Cabrera have agreed to participate in the All-Star Game. Albert and Miguel are two of the most accomplished players of their generation. They have also represented the baseball traditions of the Dominican Republic and Venezuela with excellence for the last two decades. Albert and Miguel are two all-time greats whose achievements warrant this special recognition.”
Cabrera this season is hitting .308/.347/.372 with an OPS of .718. He is currently 8th in the American League in batting average.Since June 8th, He has hit .329 with a wRC+ of 102. While he isn’t the power hitter he once was, he is hitting .386/.418/.491 with runners in scoring position this season (22-for-57) and he is the only qualified Tigers player who is hitting over .300.

Other Detroit Tigers who should join Miguel Cabrera at the All-Star Game.
On Sunday, fans will find out the reserves and pitchers that made the All-Star team. The Detroit Tigers have had several standouts in the bullpen this season that deserve the nod. While I mentioned Joe Jimenez’s numbers for All-Star consideration, one name that stands out is Alex Lange. In 36 games this season, he has a 1.97 ERA with 42 strikeouts over 32 innings pitched. The change from 2021 to 2022 as far as consistency goes is night and day. He allowed an average exit velocity of 93.9 MPH with a hard hit percentage of 52.9% in 2021. This season, the average exit velocity is 85 MPH and the hard hit contact is now just 37.1% There is a 10% increase in ground ball rate as well. (44.2 in 2021 to 54.8)
