Robert Whittaker wants another shot at UFC Middleweight champ Israel Adesanya. The #1 ranked Middleweight is willing to wait his turn for his shot at the belt and says its the only fight that makes sense for him.
“I never said I don’t want to fight Izzy.” – Robert Whitaker
During a recent interview with MMAJunkie, Whittaker didn’t hold back his feelings towards UFC President Dana White.
I certainly think he took a little twist to what I said. I never said I don’t want to fight Izzy. That’s not something I said. I did not say that. I’m looking to fight March, April next year. I would like to fight Izzy. If Izzy’s moving up to fight Jan, then I’ll move up and fight him there if he gets the win. I want that fight. I do want that fight. We just had to work it into that timeline. I have no control on what the UFC’s going to do or what Izzy’s going to do, but whether he’s here at middleweight or up at light heavyweight, I’ll take the fight him.”

#2 ranked UFC Middleweight Paulo Costa wants his shot at Robert Whittaker, but if its up to Whittaker he wants another crack at the belt. Whittaker does indeed deserve another shot at Izzy, but his post fight interview after defeating Jared Cannonier was lackluster. When you win a big fight you need to sell yourself, not shrug your shoulders and just hope you get a shot at the belt. I know you just went three hard rounds with a top contender, but SELL YOUR NEXT FIGHT! Obviously with Izzy moving up to 205 the division will be stalled out for a bit, so why not take the fight with Costa. A dominant win over Costa would almost guarantee a rematch with Adesanya for the belt, but you have to fight for it. The UFC doesn’t just give out title shots anymore, you have to sell yourself. You have to force yourself in the conversation. Here’s to hoping the division doesn’t get put on the back burner thanks to Izzy moving up to 205.
