When Dana White said that Adesanya vs Costa would be the Fight Of The Year I had my doubts. Watching Adesanya vs Romero was painful. Extremely painful. I don’t like to get my hopes up for big fights, but Adesanya vs Costa did deliver. It might not have been “FOTY” worthy considering it only lasted two rounds, but it proved that Adesanya is as good as it gets in the Middleweight division.
Dana White is paid to hype fights, and hyping Izzy vs Paulo was a risky move, but it worked. Izzy proved that when it comes to skills in the octagon, precision always beats power. Adesanya was patient, didn’t let Costa’s antics inside and outside the octagon get to him, and used his kickboxing to earn his 100th victory. When asked if Adesanya was the next Anderson Silva of the division he had this to say…
“I think he’s gonna be the new Adesanya of the division. He’s got his own style and his own way about him. I think he’s gonna be the next big superstar here, especially after tonight’s performance.”
Dana White
Now that McGregor is “retired” and Jones is busy putting on weight to reach the Heavyweight mark, Izzy can shine. Adesanya is the UFC’s biggest fighter right now. He has an entire nation behind him and has had some of the most entertaining fights in UFC history. Oh, and he’s 100-6 in his fighting career. Insane.
