It’s official! The Detroit Pistons have selected Cade Cunningham with the number one pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. The last time the Pistons had the number one pick was when the team chose Bob Lainer back in 1970.

Cunningham was the top prospect in this year’s draft. He just came off a fantastic year at Oklahoma State. He was the Big 12 player of the year and consensus first-team All-American.

There are multiple parts to Cunningham’s game that he will bring to the Pistons. The first is Cunningham’s ability to be clutch at the end of games. Last season, he scored the most clutch points in the nation, and Big-12 with 103 clutch points scored. The Pistons have not had a player that could take over the game in the clutch since Isaiah Thomas or Grant Hill. Cunningham would fill the row of being the man guy to take over games for the Pistons.

Cunningham is also an incredible shooter. At Oklahoma State, he averaged 20.1 points and shot 40% from the 3-point line. He was one of the best three-point shooters in all of the College Hoops. Especially playing in the league today, players need to splash threes for anywhere on the court.

Not only can Cunningham score the ball, but he can defend as well. Cunningham has a 7-foot wingspan that allows him to guard any player on the floor. His lengthy wingspan will enable him to steal the ball and grab rebounds. Last season, he averaged 1.4 steals and 6.0 rebounds per game.

Detroit Piston fans have been celebrating with each other all night long. The Pistons just drafted Cade Cunningham with the number one overall pick. Fans have been waiting for a player like Cunningham on the roster for a long time. Now after all of the pain, and patience by Pistons Fans. We finally got our guy to hopefully led us to the promise land.
