Brad Holmes hit the ground running yesterday as the Detroit Lions started to sign Free Agents and put together the 2023 version of the team.

The first Free Agent signed is a piece that I absolutely loved last year.  He was a force in the middle and Dan Campbell constantly sang his praises after big wins.  He may not have dominated the stat sheet but he opened up the 1 on 1’s for Aidan Hutchinson and James Houston.

That man is Isiah Buggs!  Welcome back to the D! Here is how twitter responded to the announcement:

The next signing to come across the wire yesterday was the addition of CB am Sutton.

This was a great addition to the Detroit Lions defense.  No one knows more about Sutton that the Steelers fans and they were quite disappointed in losing Sutton.

Last but not least, Alex Anzalone.

This is one that I’m not 100% sold on.  Anzalone did play well last year but he never really jumped off the screen to me.  With that being said “In Brad Holmes I trust.” I hope Anzalone can continue to improve and be a bright spot for many years to come.

Overall, with those 3 signings it was a great day for Brad Holmes and company.  Many praised his moves and you can tell where the Lions are trying to improve and get better.  Adding 3 main pieces to the Defense is a great start.

I have been yelling to the sky about spending all your draft capital on the defensive side of the football.  This may have opened up the Detroit Lions to having more flexibility to take the best player available no matter where they are picking.

Brad Holmes does it again.  Once again he is playing chess not checkers.
