The work on the Tom Izzo addition and renovation to the Football Building is well under way. The goal is to make this building a place to entice recruits to get an inside look at what it would be like to play for Michigan State. Also, to give MSU football players the opportunity to be the most comfortable and ready to succeed in games.

Reason for Tom Izzo’s name
For those of you who might not know, Mat Ishbia pledged to donate $32 million towards the renovations of the new football building. Ishbia was a walk-on under the guidance of Tom Izzo and won a national championship in 2000. Ishbia continues to preach about the impact that Michigan State and Tom Izzo have had on his life. The reason for the Tom Izzo name on the football building is because of Mat Ishbia and what MSU has meant to him. Even though it might be football, Tom Izzo has that sort of effect on the university.

Tom Izzo Football Building Breakdown
Improvements to the locker room are under way, with 126 lockers and 120 roster spots. The extra six are for the current NFL Spartan Dawgs that want to come back and work out. This is massive for MSU because the opportunity to have recruits see the NFL guys come back and meet them can show the culture Mel Tucker wants to build.
Along with all the improvements in the locker room, weight room, and practice field, there’s an area that is meant for recruits to get a virtual look at what it’s like to wear the uniform. Darien Harris describes it as “Iron Man Station,” which shows you in the uniform combination that you want to wear. That sort of thing shows the commitment Michigan State has towards getting the guys they want on their roster.
Obviously, the donations don’t directly translate to the field, but it’s about the effort that they’re showing to try and make them. MSU wants to shoot for the moon and hopes to be on top of the Big Ten once again.
