The Detroit Tigers can now make a case for having the strongest farm system in the MLB. MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospects list received its midseason update on Tuesday, with the addition of the 2020 MLB Draft Picks. Now, with the arrival of top overall pick Spencer Torkelson, the Tigers have five of the first 51 players on this list.
Two in the Top 10
Spencer Torkelson and Casey Mize are ranked 7th and 8th respectively in the Top 100 Prospects list. There is a lot to be excited about these two players. It’s hard to remember the last time the Tigers had a top 10 prospect, let alone two of them at the same time.
Strongest Farm System
The depth of the Tigers’ system is demonstrated where the rest of the Draft picks landed. Colt Keith, the high-school infielder the Tigers expect to turn pro with their fifth-round pick, enters the top 100 rankings at 23rd. We also have the fourth round selection Gage Workman, the wicked hands, power-hitting third baseman out of Arizona State. Matt Manning comes in at 26th, Riley Greene at 33rd and Tarik Skubal at 51 on the list. In total, the Tigers have 5 prospects in the Top 100 list. The depth and quality of the system can’t be questioned, it’s now all a matter of time before we see these young, exciting talents playing in the Majors.
Overall, it’s very encouraging to know that the team has a strong farm system. It’s something the Tigers’ haven’t had in a long time, and would trade away during our contending years. Give us your thoughts! Do you think the future is bright for the Detroit Tigers?
