If you’re even a casual hockey fan, you’ve likely heard of Connor McDavid. The young phenom has taken the NHL by storm since being drafted 1st overall in 2015 draft. McDavid has not only been dominating the league, but he’s making a strong case for being considered the best athlete in all sports today.
With the 2023 regular season nearing its end, McDavid has already shattered records, including the highest single-season point total at 134 with still 12 games remaining. He’s also recorded an incredible 20 three-point games this season, a feat that hasn’t been seen in the NHL since Mario Lemieux did it in 1995. Over the course of his eight-year career, McDavid has played in 557 games and tallied 857 points, with nearly every season resulting in 100 or more points, a feat unheard of in the NHL.
Is Lord Stanley holding McDavid Back?
Is Connor McDavid’s inability to win a Stanley Cup the only thing holding him back from being considered the greatest of all time? While winning a Stanley Cup would certainly be the cherry on top of an already historic career. It should not be the sole determining factor in his legacy. Playoff hockey causes a collective effort. As, no single player can carry a team through the playoffs. Despite the Oilers’ attempts in the past, they have been unsuccessful in building a team to cross that threshold.
There is no doubt that McDavid will win a cup or two in the future. Connor’s remarkable play and accomplishments have made him the best player in the NHL today, and possibly the best athlete in all sports. Despite his record-breaking achievements and breathtaking performances that have seen him single-handedly take control of hockey games. Connor McDavid’s greatness is not always fully acknowledged in all sports circles. It’s high time for fans to recognize the significance of the history that’s being made before their very eyes and appreciate the magnitude of McDavid’s contributions to the sport.
