First overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Cade Cunningham made his Detroit Pistons debut. The Pistons lost to the OKC Thunder.

The Pistons started off the game red hot. In the first quarter, the Pistons shot 50% from the field and three-point land. Saddiq Bey led the Pistons in the first quarter of the 2021 NBA Summer League opener with 7 points and 5 rebounds. On the other end of the court, the Thunder’s Josh Giddey suffered an ankle injury at the start of the quarter and was out for the rest of the game.

The Thunder found their rhythm in the second quarter. The Thunder outscored the Pistons 28-10. At the half, OKC had the lead with a score of 42 to 38. The Thunder’s Jeremiah Robinson-Earl was the star of the first half. Robinson-Earl had 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal in the first half. 

The Thunder kept the ball rolling in the third quarter and had the lead going into the fourth quarter.

The Pistons kept trying to fight back in the fourth quarter. But it was not enough. The Thunder won the game with a final score of 76-72. 

One major cause for the Pistons lost tonight was the high amount of turnovers. The Pistons had 20 turnovers during the game.

Cunningham finished the game with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. Theo Madden for the Thunder was the star of the game. He finished with 15 points, 11 assists, and 5 rebounds.

Stars of the Game

The star for the Pistons was Saddiq Bey. He finished the game with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The star for the Thunder was Theo Madden. Madden had 11 out of 13 assist for the Thunder in the game. He scored 15 points which was the game high as well.
