Here’s your “Scoop’em Up” on Yahoo Fantasy for Week 3.
I’m going to apologize up front for last week’s advice. There were caveats to all 4 players I gave you, and most of those came back to haunt these guys.
Deni Avdija is still getting major minutes, but has mostly squandered his opps.
John Konchar continues to start even after the return of Dillon Brooks, however his production has fallen off in a major way with Brooks back in the lineup.
Lonnie Walker has been good for the Lakers, but not the source of fantasy stats I had hoped for him to be. He is a top 120 player, which means he should still be on your roster. He is a guy I’m continuing to hold in all my leagues.
Grant Williams on the other hand has done well with his opportunity in Boston. He is a top 60 player on average, bringing awesome shooting percentages and a well rounded stat line every night out, including a block a game and two 3’s a game. I missed out on him in every league and I’m sad about it.
After focusing on players less than 30% owned, I was only 2 for 4 last week on my recommendations…I will be better! So this week, we will focus on players under 50% owned. At least one of these guys will be sitting there waiting for you to scoop ’em up for week 3.
Under 50% owned on Yahoo Fantasy
Jalen Williams (SG/SF) 49% owned – OKC
The ‘other’ rookie in OKC had an electric preseason and looked ready to be a major player for the Thunder this year. That came to a quick end only 6 minutes into his first game in the NBA after suffering a fractured orbital bone. This is bad for anyone that doesn’t want to don the Rip Hamilton look, but it’s great for fantasy owners in leagues where this guy was waived or overlooked entirely. Jalen returned on Sunday, sporting a facemask, earning 27 minutes of playtime and putting up his first nice line as a pro. I would RUN to your waiver wire to see if someone did indeed lose patience on this guy, and scoop ’em up if he is there. Strong percentiles, plenty of scoring and lots of steals…his 13p/3r/3a/4s/1b line is just a glimpse of what’s to come.
Jalen Suggs (PG/SG) 47% owned – ORL
How is this guy available in over half of yahoo leagues? Probably the same reason Jalen Williams is available…injuries and impatient owners. One man’s rash decision is another man’s opportunity. Suggs has been sorely missed by the Magic who have been without a true place setter bringing up the ball as well as an off guard complement on the perimeter. I expect the second year guard to improve on last year’s numbers playing next to Paulo Banchero. Easier looks at the basket while Banchero draws the defense’s attention, more assists and high steal totals should push Suggs into the top 100. This is another guy, who if available, needs to get scooped up pronto!

Marcus Morris (PF/C) 38% owned – LAC
There is a common theme to these guys so far. Each of them has missed time early in the season to minor injuries, allowing some of them to (hopefully) end up on your free agent wire. Morris is no exception as he missed a pair of games for personal reasons. The starting power forward for the Clippers is a role that will produce fantasy wise, even if he gets less than 30 minutes a game. He got 37 minutes on Halloween and responded with his second straight solid fantasy line since returning to the lineup. He won’t put up crazy numbers at 33 years old, but his overall lines should provide a top 90 finish and his center eligibility will provide some extra versatility for your squad. Certainly good enough for you to go scoop ’em up.
Under 30% owned in Yahoo Fantasy
Markelle Fultz (PG/SG) 27% owned – ORL
Read Jalen Suggs above. Again, the Magic are desperate for a floor general. There is no concrete news as to when Fultz will return to the lineup, but we know when he does, he will be positioned perfectly for major fantasy success. After returning from injury late last season, he seemed to make everything make sense for Orlando down the stretch. Admittedly, Markelle has been a frustrating player to own throughout most of his career. However, from what I saw last year, this is a guy who is ready to put it all together and finally has some talent around him to make sure that it happens. Scoop ’em up, get him on your IR and wait. I think you’ll be happy that you did.
Marvin Bagley III (PF/C) 22% owned – DET
Similar to Fultz, Bagley is a guy you can add now and stash on your IR in advance of his return. Dwayne Casey said the Pistons’ top signing of the off season is close to a return. It will be interesting to see how he fits into this team after adding rookie Jalen Duren in the draft. I think Isiah Stewart will eventually move to a bench role, and I believe it will be Bagley starting at center most of the season, not Duren. He was very effective once he got to Detroit last year, averaging 14 & 7 with some defensive stats. Be warned though, he will hurt your FT%, however his overall play should be good enough to roster him all season. Your window is NOW for both Bagley and Fultz. As injury updates trickle in over the next week, you’ll see their ownership numbers jump. So scoop ’em up and stash them while you can!
