UFC President Dana White suggested that #1 Strawweight contender Rose Namajunas turned down a title fight against Weili Zhang. Namajunas responded to White’s claims on Sunday and made it clear that she is ready for a shot at the belt.
The UFC Women’s Strawweight division is one of the most entertaining divisions in the organization. After years of building, the division is now filled with some incredible talent. Zhang became the champion after defeating Jéssica Andrade in August 2019. Zhang defended the belt in March 2020 and put on a fight of the year performance against Joanna Jędrzejczyk. Dana White recently suggested that Rose Namajunas turned down a chance at the belt. He also stated the organization will move on and book Zhang against Carla Esparza. As a result of all of this Rose Namajunas had no choice but to respond to the rumors and drama.
Namajunas Is Ready For A Shot At The Strawweight Belt
Namajunas posted a video on her YouTube channel on Sunday to shut down the rumors of her rejecting a shot at the belt. After the passing of her grandmother, Rose is ready to get back in the octagon and put on a performance.
Maybe there’s a misconception out there that I’m weak-minded or whatever. Or I can’t handle the pressures of being champion or whatever the fuck people say. That’s not true. That’s what I live for.I’m the pressure cooker. And what better reason to remind me why I fight was some family member passing away. So I am super ready for all of that because that’s what I’m fighting for.
Rose Namajunas
Although Dana White has a history of claiming fighters don’t want title shots I really don’t think that is the case with Rose. Sure, she just suffered a devastating loss in her family, but Namajunas is a champion at heart. In fact, I guarantee we will see Namajunas vs Zhang in 2021. This is just Dana’s way of pushing a fight he wants.
