Middleweight contender Yoel Romero and the UFC have parted ways. Romero’s manager, Malki Kawa confirmed the rumors on Friday. Romero was scheduled to fight Uriah Hall in August, but pulled out the fight for undisclosed reasons. The “Soldier of God” still had three fights left on his UFC contract.
Where Will Romero Fight Next? Bellator? BKFC? Boxing?
At 43-years old you have to wonder how much Romero has left in the tank. Normally I’d say retire at that age, but Romero isn’t your typical MMA fighter. The man is a freak of nature. Sure, after a lack-luster performance against Israel Adesanya some were saying Romero should hang it up, but I blame both parties for that fight. Yes, it was terrible, but some fighters just aren’t meant to match up. Regardless of how his current record looks, Yoel will go down in history as being one of the most entertaining fighters in the sport. What he did to Luke Rockhold, Chris Weidman, Tim Kennedy, and others is something out of an action movie.
Romero is a true fighter and I hope he lands at another promotion soon. He deserves all the money as he inches closer and closer to retirement. Jake Paul wants a real fight? Set him up with Romero and watch him get slaughtered. Could you imagine? Jake Paul vs The Solder of God??? INSANE. Yoel could ride off into the sunset, cash the check, and enjoy retirement. If anyone deserves it its the Solider of God.
