The Detroit Red Wings have signed defenseman Olli Maatta to a two-year, $6 million extension. General Manager Steve Yzerman signed Maatta in the off-season to a one year, prove it type contract. Fast forward 52 games and Olli has earned in his spot in the Red Wings’ future.

Olli since joining the Detroit Red Wings, has thrived in all aspects, meanwhile has brought out the best of Filip Hronek. In 49 games Maatta has recorded 17 points (5G,12A) with +5 on the year. While there were rumors surrounding Maatta possibly being shopped at the trade deadline because of his veteran presence and what was a favorable expiring contract. Yzerman has therefore put those rumors to rest, locking down the Finland native.
