Copp Comes Home

Steve Yzerman made his first splash in Free agency and this Red Wings rebuild by bringing home Ann Arbor native Andrew Copp. Andrew and the Red Wings agreed to terms on 5 year – $5.625 m deal, Copp is who 28 will be 33 when his contract with Detroit expires. I personally love the deal! I believe it’s a fair price for the player you’re getting. He’s a developed center coming off his best season yet. Copp is coming off a hot post-season run with the New York Rangers, where he had 14 points in 20 games (6 G 8A). He was crucial for the rangers during that playoff run. He played fantastic alongside Artemi Panarin and showed that he can compete on and against top lines around the league. Not only are you getting the perfect fit at the center position for this team, you’re also getting a hometown kid that knows the culture of Red Wings hockey and knows what it means to wear the winged wheel.

Yzerman Gets His Center

The Red Wings have been in desperate need of a 2nd line center or just depth at the center position in general. In last weeks draft, Yzerman went with Center Marco Kasper with the 8th overall pick in hopes he can develop into a 2nd line to 3rd line and create depth at the position for the future. But today, he went out and made his first dip into free agency. He got a guy that is a 1st to 2nd line player and will make an immediate impact on this team. Copp is a two way player maker that can put the puck in the net and knows how to be physical and use his body. He is going be a great addition for this team and it will be refreshing to see him play alongside some of this young core for the future.
