The Detroit Red Wings kick off their preseason with a lot of youth in the lineup
The 2022 NHL season is officially underway as the Detroit Red Wings head down to PPG Paints Arena to face off against the Penguins. After just finishing up training camp, the hype around the young core, along with the additions in the off-season, is through the roof. Although there are still many question marks surrounding the roster, Steve Yzerman has caught the league’s attention moving forward with this team.

Opening Night Lineups:
Early this morning, the Pittsburgh Penguins released their lineup for tonight’s game and what seems to be almost their entire opening night roster. What does the mean for Detroit? We are going to get to see our young developing roster play meaningful preseason hockey.
With the pieces of this team slowly coming together, tough matchups like this are critical to Detroit’s development. When the first game is out of training camp is with the likes of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, this should be a good test right away.

Gentry’s Skater To Watch
My skater to watch going into tonight’s preseason opener is Fillip Zadina. Zadina has a big year ahead of him after getting the contract extension that provides the Wings some stability for the future. I believe Fillip will have the breakout year we’ve all been hoping for. The additions in the offseason provide this team with depth and many options for lines throughout the season.
