The Detroit Red Wings ended their road trip on a high note. Snapping their three game skid, escaping with 3-2 Victory over the Vegas Golden Knights. After what has been a disastrous couple of games between collapsing against Arizona and flat out playing inconsistently. Detroit got a much needed two points in Vegas, totaling to three of six total points on their west coast trip.

Head Coach Derek Lalonde spoke after the game about the huge two points along with Tyler Bertuzzi heading off with a lower body injury :

“Lower body, he could feel it was creeping into his game a bit into the 2nd period, trainer pulled him in the third. I thought that we managed that third period better than the other night. Got a big save from Ville in that third period.. All in all a great win, a really good win on the road”

Red Wings’ Takeaways

  • Lucas Raymond and Dylan Larkin’s connection continues to be a difference maker holding down that top line. Larkin extended his point streak to six tonight, meanwhile Raymond now has eight points in his last six games (4G,4A). Bertuzzi staying healthy and getting some minutes under his belt will help put this line over the top.

  •  Joe Veleno, who is a restricted free agent this summer, played fantastic yet again. Veleno has been a bright spot on Detroit’s bottom six all season, has really proved he can be a great depth piece moving forward. Notably, the chemistry built in Grand Rapids between him and Berggren has been fun to watch although, I don’t agree with Bergy being in the bottom six.

  • Even though they got two points, it was still too close for comfort. No lead feels safe right now, Detroit needs to figure out how play a full sixty minutes and grasp all momentum it’s in front of them.
