After soundly defeating Minnesota 49-24, Michigan will head into its 113th matchup this Saturday against in-state rival Michigan State.

The Wolverines won the last two matchups against the Spartans. The most recent was a 44-10 bludgeoning (2019) in Ann Arbor and coming out victorious 21-7 in East Lansing (2018). Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh spoke to the media ahead of Saturday’s content for the Paul Bunyan Trophy.

Some quick takeaways from the presser are:

  • Says he saw a lot of things in practice that showed up in the game against Minnesota. He touts the turnovers and the quarterback rating as notable positives. Additionally, he felt there was a lot of hustle from all units and physicality from both sides of the ball.
  • Noted that he doesn’t expect MSU to commit as many turnovers in their upcoming match like last week. They had seven against Rutgers.
  • Expects that he find out more about tight end Nick Eubanks’ injury either today or tomorrow.
  • Before the team took the field against Minnesota, Jim Harbaugh said Ben Mason made a passionate speech before the game. Mason specifically told quarterback Joe Milton: “Joe, this is your night. We’re going to block, catch, do everything in our power to make your night special.”
  • On Rocky Lombardi and Joe Milton understanding the magnitude of Saturday’s rivalry game: “They both have a really good understanding of it”. Said both players have already seen it up close.
  • On playing MSU in The Big House without fans: “It’s different but it’s still a game…The red blood is pumping…this game is for the State championship…it’s a big deal!”
  • Praised the play of Michael Barrett before the presser ended. Said Barrett played “lights out”. Credits him as Michigan’s first player since Jabril Peppers to be both the defensive and special teams player of the game.
