The Detroit Pistons drafted Isaiah Livers in the second round in the 2021 NBA Draft. Many fans are wondering what impact Livers brings to the team. So, here is a breakdown on what Liver’s brings to the Pistons.

Catch and Shoot Threes

Isaiah Livers’s primary skill is catch and shoot three-pointers. Last season, he took 51% of his threes attempts as catch and shoots. He was 43.1% from three-point range last season and ranked 8th in the Big Ten in three-point percentage.

Livers is going to get plenty of opportunities to shoot the ball. Pistons need help with three-point shooting as the team ranked 21th in three-point percentage last season. Playmakers Killian Hayes and Cade Cunningham will be looking for Livers as the target to knock down threes.

Transition Buckets

Livers is not only a great three-point shooter, but he is excellent on transition. He had 1.03 points per shot around the rim in the half-court. The most impressive stat was that he had 1.43 points per Transition possession. That is ranked in the 94th percentile.

Next season for the Pistons, he can run on transition and go right into the corner. Guards: Hayes, Cunningham, Lee, and Jackson can all find Livers in the corner or the paint for easy transition points. The Pistons ranked 25th in fast-break points last season. So having a guy like him on transition is going to make a significant impact.

Reunited with John Beilein

Livers is reuniting with his first head coach at Michigan, John Beilein. Beilein accepted the role had been the Pistons Senior Player Advisor back in June.

Livers stated on reuniting with Beilein again, “It’s not even ironic. It was like it’s supposed to happen where I meet with Coach B again. We get some work in,” via Brad Galli of Channel 7 News.

Livers is still recovering from foot surgery. Livers injured his foot back in March, causing him to sit out for the entire NCAA Tournament. So he has been working with Beilein to help him get back into game shape and not participate in Summer League games. He should make a full recovery and be back on the court sometime in November.
