UPDATE: UFC President Dana White stated the rematch between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier is NOT a signed deal. White stated that the UFC has sent the bout agreement to Conor today, but nothing is done yet…
Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier 2 is officially happening! The rematch has been rumored for months, but according to multiple sources the fight will headline UFC 257 in January.
McGregor vs Poirier 2 Will Take Place At 155lbs
The highly anticipated rematch between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier has been something all MMA fans have wanted to see for years. The fight will happen in the Lightweight division which in my opinion is the perfect spot for both fighters. Although some fans would prefer a 170lb bout for McGregor’s return, having the fight happen at 155lbs will show who is a title contender at Lightweight.
This will be no easy task for Conor. I guarantee this fight will be nothing like McGregor’s last bout against Cerrone at UFC 246. Poirier has made drastic improvements over the years and has stayed active. I doubt this fight will be a repeat of their first fight back in 2014. McGregor would be smart to take this fight seriously. I usually stay away from predictions, but I think MMA fans will be shocked at how different this fight will be compared to their last bout. Sure, McGregor is s superstar, but has he improved as much as Poirier? Has he stayed as active as Poirier? What about his ground game? Poirier is known for his striking and submissions.
UFC 257 will happen on January 23rd and is rumored to take place in Las Vegas. Although the chances of fans being in attendance is low, McGregor vs Poirier 2 is the perfect way to kick off 2021 for the UFC. The amount of PPV buys this fight is going to produce is going to be insane.
