Amidst a “lengthy’ rebuild the Lions have to rely heavily on young talent in upcoming years. The 2021 NFL Draft for the Detroit Lions was a big step forward in this new regime. Lots of talent and ready to go starters were drafted by Brad Holmes and company.

Among the young talent drafted this year, Amon-Ra St. Brown flew under the radar. The Lions were in dire need for a wideout that can come in and start right away. The first pick in the draft was obvious, Penei Sewell. With a stacked draft class Brad Holmes had some leverage on drafting a wideout in the later rounds.

California King

St Brown in his senior year of high school received 21 offers to play in college including an offer from Michigan State. Also, ranked the number one receiver in California coming out of high school.

The fourth round came along and with the 112th pick, the Lions selected Amon-Ra St. Brown out of USC. At 6 feet tall, St. Brown proved at USC why he was worthy of the pick at 112. After watching tape, he has jump ball ability and exceptional route running. He has the talent to either play on the outside or even in the slot, providing great spacing for the offense. He has great ability to block down field, which is a big plus for an offense.

At USC St. Brown played 31 games in 3 years. Posting 178 receptions for 2270 yards. Along with the yardage he grabbed 16 receiving touchdowns. St. Brown is projected to be one of the top rookie wideouts for this upcoming season.

Amon-Ra has the ability to become a threat in this offense for the Lions. Compared to the likes of Robert Woods. Woods was Jared Goff’s go-to target out in LA and that can transcend to St. Browns game.
