One of the most highly anticipated matches of 2020 has been postponed. Robbie Lawler has been forced to pull out of his fight against Mike Perry at UFC 255 due to injury.
On Monday the fight was no longer listed on the UFC 255 card which made some MMA fans wonder if the bout had been canceled. UFC Welterweight Mike Perry confirmed the the rumors via Twitter on Wednesday. Perry took to Twitter to not only confirm the bout with Lawler had been canceled, but made quite the call out as well…
Khamzat Chimaev vs Mike Perry???
Chimaev is scheduled to fight Leon Edwards on December 19th, but anything is possible in 2020. Would it really surprise you if Chimaev decided to schedule fighting on the UFC 255 card AND on December 19th? The man literally fought THREE times in 66 days. Chimaev pulling double duty wouldn’t be out of the question, but imagine if he won both fights. Sure, Mike Perry is no easy task, but he’s not even in the UFC Welterweight rankings. If Chimaev can beat both Perry AND Edwards in a one month span that would skyrocket the already rising UFC fighter. Perry also decided throw a shot at Darren Till who is scheduled to fight Jack Hermansson in December. It’s 2020 so there’s really no rules. Anything is possible at this point.
Considering Perry is 2-2 in his last four fights he really needs to be cautious who he decides to fight next. Although he’s a fan favorite, his striking is all stand and bang. Perry also decided to get rid of his corner and have his fiance run his entire corner. This could cause a serious issue if Perry faces someone that he has to make adjustments mid fight. Truth be told Perry is one of my favorite fighters to watch in the octagon, I’d just hate to see him lose and go down the road of getting cut and fighting for a B-league organization if he continues to fight the way he does currently.
