UFC Kicking Off 2021 With Kattar Vs Holloway

The UFC announced on Tuesday that Calvin Kattar and former Featherweight champ Max Holloway will headline the first card of 2021. UFC Fight Night Kattar vs Holloway will happen on January 16th though details on a location have yet to be announced.

Is A Win Over Holloway Enough For Kattar To Earn A Title Shot In 2021?

This is a huge match up in the Featherweight division. A win for Kattar would in my opinion absolutely earn him a shot against Alexander Volkanovski. Kattar has notable wins over Ricardo Lamas, Jeremy Stephens, and Dan Ige and has shown he is a top contender in the division. Max is coming off of back to back losses over champ Volkanovski, so I don’t see the UFC setting him up with another shot if he were to beat Calvin. Holloway would need at least another win or two to earn another shot at the belt. Kattar has put on some amazing performances and deserves at shot at the #1 contender. The division is stacked so it will be interesting to see what happens after January 16th.

This fight could reset the division with a Calvin win. I am a Holloway fan, but Max needs a couple more wins before he gets another shot at the belt. I think the UFC will most likely set up Ortega vs Volkanovski for the title this Spring or Summer. Kattar vs Holloway is a great match up to show who is a true #1 contender at 145. I can’t wait for this fight!
