Jared Goff is the NFC North’s Top QB…and it’s not even close.

A Controversial Debate Ignites

The recent ranking by Robert Griffin III on ESPN’s Get Up has sparked a heated debate. He failed to include Jared Goff in his top five list of NFC quarterbacks, and its blasphemous. While Griffin’s list – Jalen Hurts, Kirk Cousins, Dak Prescott, Kyler Murray, and Geno Smith – rightfully places Hurts at the top, it’s hard to argue that Goff doesn’t deserve the second spot.

Fans of the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and Minnesota Vikings are eager to discuss their quarterbacks’ performances and prospects for the upcoming season, as each QB faces unique challenges in their pursuit of gridiron glory.

1. Jared Goff is the Top QB in the NFC North

There’s no denying it – Jared Goff reigns supreme as the top quarterback in the NFC North. Despite a shaky start to his Lions tenure, Goff bounced back, leading the team from a 1-6 record to a commendable 9-8 finish. Although the Lions narrowly missed a playoff berth, Goff’s achievements have solidified his status as the organization’s quarterback for the 2023 season and beyond.

Put Some Respect on his Name

Goff’s 2022 season was nothing short of outstanding, as NFL.com’s Marc Sessler remarked, “Nobody expected him to torch defenses for 29 touchdowns against just seven interceptions.” The nine-game streak without an interception further cemented Goff’s position in the Lions’ plans. With 4,438 pass yards, 29 touchdown passes, seven interceptions, and a 65.1% completion percentage, Goff’s second season in Detroit saw him achieve career-best numbers. For the first time in his career, he will have the same offensive coordinator and QB coach in consecutive seasons.

Underestimated and Undervalued

Goff’s strengths, particularly his accuracy and play-action prowess, are often overlooked. His seamless integration with running back David Montgomery will further elevate his game, making the RB an invaluable asset to the Detroit Lions alongside D’Andre Swift. As the 2023 NFL season approaches, the Lions can rest assured that they have a top-tier quarterback in Jared Goff leading their offense in the competitive NFC North.

The Future Looks Bright in Detroit

Lions General Manager Brad Holmes has expressed sincere confidence in Goff. He states that the QB has “proved” he deserves to be Detroit’s starter in 2023. Sessler highlighted Goff’s transformation, noting his ability to avoid major mistakes and embrace aggressive downfield plays. Goff’s low interception percentage (1.2%) and strong performance in play-action have further bolstered his reputation as an ideal fit for the Lions.

Here is my NFC North QB ranking and why the other 3 NFC North QB’s are all a step below Jared Goff…

2. Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings

While Cousins excelled in leading the Minnesota Vikings to a 13-4 record and an NFC North division win, he couldn’t outshine Goff. The Vikings’ wildcard weekend loss raised questions about Cousins’ ability to perform in big games.

Cousins’ finished the season with 4,547 passing yards, 29 touchdowns, numbers that are comparable to Jared Goff. Unfortunately, Cousins threw twice as many interceptions (14) as Goff and had a lower quarterback rating (49.9). The Vikings have lost some of their top offensive weapons due to salary cap restrictions, so the 2023 NFL season will show us what Cousins can accomplish with less talent around him.

3. Justin Fields, Chicago Bears

Chicago Bears’ Justin Fields has stirred up debates about his potential to become an elite NFL quarterback. Fields displays elite athleticism and impressive running skills, but his passing abilities need improvement. He gained 2,242 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions with a quarterback rating of 54. He has showed flashes of greatness, but inconsistency in some games has held Fields back.

Entering his third NFL year, Fields has started 25 games, throwing over 200 yards in just six of them. However, he has proven to be a playmaker with his legs when the passing game falters. Fields could rise in the rankings with new receiver D.J. Moore and a bolstered offensive line that the Chicago Bears are expected to address in the NFL draft.

4. Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers

Ranking a Green Bay Packers quarterback at the bottom of the NFC North feels strange. However, Jordan Love has yet to prove himself. As a backup to Aaron Rodgers, Love started one game and played in ten. He completed 50 of 83 passes for 606 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions.

With Rodgers moving to the New York Jets, Love will have an opportunity to demonstrate his abilities. It’s hard to predict Love’s future in Green Bay. The NFL draft and his performance in game action will determine his fate. For now, Love ranks fourth in the NFC North.

In Conclusion…

In conclusion, the NFC North boasts a mix of experienced quarterbacks and promising talent. While Jared Goff holds the top spot with impressive skills and leadership, Kirk Cousins remains a close second, showing great potential for the 2023 season. Justin Fields, an athletic 3rd-year QB, has the chance to rise in the rankings with improved passing abilities and the right support. Lastly, Jordan Love, the unproven Packer, will have an opportunity to prove himself as the franchise’s future leader.

As the 2023 season unfolds, it will be exciting to see how these quarterbacks continue to shape the competitive landscape of the NFC North. But let’s be real, Jared Goff is the top QB in the conference.
