As we wait for the 2021 NBA Draft lottery to determine who will be selecting first overall this year, Jalen Green finished his one and only year playing for the G-league Ignite. In his one year he averaged 17.9 points per game shooting 46% from the field. Green showed plenty defensive versatility, which is something Troy Weaver obsesses over. The ability to switch between players in the NBA is more important than ever. And at a standing height of 6’5 he’s able to showcase incredible dunking ability and strong lateral movement.

Ranked Higher Than Cade Cunningham

Jalen Green was the #1 ranked high school player in 2020 over Cade Cunningham. People forget at one point Green was ranked higher than the projected first overall 2021 Draft pick. Green chose to play in the G-league for a year instead of the college route to make it to the NBA. Unlike Cunningham, Green played against veterans and experienced a similar environment to the NBA. Cunningham averaging 20 points per game in college is impressive, but different circumstances when he’s the number one option. Jalen Green was playing with other potential lottery picks trying to shine. Besides the versatility, Green brings a scoring threat to any team. His ability to get crafty with the basketball and make tough shots are extremely impressive. Green was vocal about his decision to go to the G-league and how things would be different if he chose college.

Perfect Match For The Detroit Pistons

Jalen Green’s ability to make the correct read when he drives to the basket is another positive thing about his game. He has a similar build of Detroit Pistons shooting guard Josh Jackson, another guy who checks the box physically for Troy Weaver and Dwayne Casey. But Green has a significantly higher upside than Jackson because of his raw skill set. Whichever NBA team takes Jalen Green is getting a fierce competitor and someone who can contribute right away.

If the Detroit Pistons land the first or second overall pick, Jalen Green is someone that has to be considered. Unlike Evan Mobley and Cade Cunningham, Jalen Green would have the easiest time adjusting to the NBA mainly because his G-league experience. And his ability to attack the rim and shoot the ball from three point range.
