During the press conference to introduce Scott Harris as the new Detroit Tigers President of Baseball Operations, Owner Chris Ilitch thanked many people. One name that stood out was Executive Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman.

This name stuck out to me right away. There have been many questions about Chris Ilitch’s leadership and talent evaluation. So what do smart people do? They surround themselves with other smart people. Steve Yzerman falls into the smart category.

The way Yzerman could construct what is now a dynasty in Tampa Bay shows he knows how to lead. It shows he knows how to win. How well will the hockey mindset help with selecting a new GM in Detroit? Time will tell.

We can only hope this rubs off on the Tigers’ organization.
