Holland vs Brunson To Clash In 5 Round Main Event
Multiple sources have confirmed that Kevin Holland vs Derek Brunson is in the works to headline the UFC Fight Night card on March 20th. Holland called out Brunson via Twitter after knocking out Jacare Souza in the first round at UFC 256.
Trailblazer Wants In On January 20th Main Event
Kevin Holland is my vote for the 2020 Fighter Of The Year. Not only did he accomplish an impressive record of 5-0 in 2020, but he technically did it in less than 7 months. Here’s a breakdown of his 2020 record…
Ronaldo Souza KO (punches) – December 12th, 2020
Charlie Ontiveros TKO (submission to slam) – October 31, 2020
Darren Stewart Decision (split) – September 19, 2020
18–5 Joaquin Buckley TKO (punch) – August 8, 2020
17–5 Anthony Hernandez TKO (knees and punches) – May 16, 2020
5-0 in the span of less than 7 months is a record breaking year for any UFC fighter, but Holland not only wins in the octagon he is great on the mic. His trash talk is one of his greatest strengths when it comes to moving up in the rankings. Sure, he’s phenomenal in the octagon, but what earns you fights these days in the UFC is also what you do outside the octagon.
The upcoming bout with Derek Brunson is a perfect test for Holland. Brunson has a history of taking out opponents that are currently on fight streaks. His fight against Edmen Shahbazyan and Elias Theodorou are proof of that as both were on steady fight streaks before fighting Brunson. Brunson himself is currently on a three fight win streak.
What doesn’t surprise me is the fact that Holland wants to get in another fight before his March 20th bout against Brunson. Leon Edwards is searching for an opponent due to Khamzat Chimaev pulling out and Holland is game for January 20th. It would surprise me if the UFC actually goes through with Holland’s request to fight Edwards but stranger things have happened.
